Jennifer McCollum, APR, CRE
Principal Practitioner

Jennifer McCollum, APR, CRE is the co-founder and principal pracitioner of Tambourine PR. She was born in East Los Angeles and grew up across the rural plains. She has served as the PR director for two state agencies; the environmental public affairs officer for a military installation and Superfund site; the Public Information Officer for three major public institutions, and the executive director of four nonprofits. She currently remains wholly devoted to her work as the contract Executive Director of the Oklahoma Engineering Foundation.
For more than three decades, Jennifer has worked at the intersection of public affairs, nonprofit leadership, and storytelling, helping organizations communicate complex issues, build coalitions, and engage the public around ideas that matter.
As a nonprofit executive and accredited public relations practitioner, her work spans public policy, advocacy, fundraising, legislative engagement, crisis communications, and strategic communications for mission-driven organizations. She has worked with nonprofits, public agencies, and advocacy organizations across Oklahoma to build partnerships with foundations, corporate sponsors, and government leaders to support programs in education, public health, infrastructure, and community development.
Earlier in her career, she served as a public information officer and spokesperson for major public service institutions including the state’s largest ambulance service and utility. These roles required clear communication with the public during high-pressure situations and helped shape her approach to transparency, trust, and public engagement.
Alongside my professional work, she has spent more than 20 years writing long-form articles and photo essays documenting Generation X (1961–1981). She is currently writing a memoir with a working title, The Unauthorized Biography of Generation X. Her writing explores themes of memory, cultural change, preservation, and the lived experiences of a generation often overlooked in historical narratives.
Her background includes journalism, public affairs, legislative and stakeholder relations, coalition building, fundraising and grant development, crisis communications, digital strategy, and nonprofit governance.
Jennifer is married with three children and lives in Oklahoma City. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her Shetland Sheepdogs, writing, reading, photography and flower gardening.
